RC tyres wearing unevenly? Read the wear, then adjust
Tyre wear tells you what's wrong: outside edge wearing means too little negative camber, inside edge means too much, and feathered edges mean toe is off. Adjust half a degree at a time and rotate tyres to even out a set.
Why it happens
Camber and toe decide how flat each tyre sits and whether it scrubs as it rolls. Get them wrong and one edge does all the work.
Read the wear
| Wear pattern | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Outside edge | Not enough negative camber | Add 0.5° negative camber |
| Inside edge | Too much negative camber | Back off 0.5° |
| Feathered edges | Toe incorrect or uneven | Set toe and match both sides |
| One corner only | That corner is set differently or bent | Measure and compare left and right |
Then
- Adjust in 0.5° steps and run a pack before judging.
- Rotate tyres front to rear to even out a set.
- On abrasive surfaces, a harder compound lasts longer.

FAQ
Why are my RC tyres wearing on the inside edge? Too much negative camber. Reduce it by half a degree and check again after a pack.
How do I check toe on an RC car? Use a setup board or measure the distance between the front and rear edges of the tyres; adjust turnbuckles until both sides match.
Should I rotate RC drift tyres? Yes. Swapping front to rear evens out wear and makes a set last longer.
